  • I arrived at The Dendy at around 10:30 to the sounds of Tim Boffa. It was fairly empty, and the Movin’ House crew were still putting up decorations. The club was still filling up and unfortunately I don’t think anyone was dancing for very long of Tim Boffa’s set. Next up was Gav Fisher. I had really enjoyed his set at the last Toasted so as soon as he came on I made my way on to the dance floor. Gav started out quite progressive, with a nice ambient breakdown quite early in his set. About mid way into his set he played “Spike” by Infusion (the Morse mix). He then started to build it up, with some great driving base lines. He also managed to play some nice breaks, that lead very well in to Luke Glendays set. Luke at the previous parties has played either last or near the end. This has meant that he has normally played quite deep, dark and tech-driven. This time around he played an hour of solid breaks. He flowed well from Gav Fisher, keeping to the strong and driving baselines. He played a nice Plump DJ’s track, as well as at least on track off the Adam Freeland “On Tour” Album. It was good to see that Luke really got the crowd moving, and for all of his set the rather small main room was very nicely packed. Sugar Ray is a DJ that I have only seen a couple of time. When I have seen him in the past I have been impressed, but he has often seemed to lack something. I find that on the times when I have seen him he has got a little hard and monotonous. But not at Toasted. I finally got to see why he is held in such high regard. And I think there were more than a few people there who were very impressed with him. Early on in his set he played “So Get Up” by USOL. He played a great mix of “Flawless”. While I personally don’t like the original, the mix that he played was great. As well as “Patricia never leaves the House” by Wally Lopez and a remix of Felix Da Housecat, “Silver Screen Shower Scene” (I think it was the FC Kahuna mix). All in all it was a top set. It had a nice dark and almost sinister feel to it, building smoothly up to a good but not too hard level. Jay Walker was the last of the Toasted residents to play. Unfortunately I cannot comment on a lot of his set as I was enjoying the comforts of the Dendy’s couches and speaking to a few people. This is disappointing as from all reports he played a really nice set. Ajax was then on. He had been my favourite from the last party and I was hoping that he played to the same standard. It was good to see that The Dendy was still packed (especially the dance floor) for his set. He played a track by infusion (I think sander k played it a Gatecrasher), as well as a track from Nick Warren’s Amsterdam GU (still trying to work out which track it is). The Last act of the night was Illya. He was a good choice as last DJ as he brought the tempo down a bit, playing funky nu-skool breaks to round off the evening. He, as always, was going crazy behind the decks, jumping around and getting everyone enthusiastic. By this time there was probably around 100 people left (a lot looking worse for wear), so it was a great idea to have someone up the front willing you on and really keeping you in dancing mode. He played “Harder, Stronger, Faster, Better” by Daft Punk (it was a remix but I know it wasn’t the Pete Heller mix). Also played this mix of a Modjo track that he had played at the last toasted night. To end of the night he played a very extended remix of Billie Jean. It took at least 5 or 6 minutes before any vocals came in, and was really dubby. Towards the end of the record he starting scratching, which got a great crowd reaction. It was then around 6 o’clock. I had promised myself I would leave early and not be standing there when they kicked everyone out. I had failed, but was happy I had stayed to the end. It was another great night by the Movin’ House crew.
