Spazmodic - Spaztic Fantastic EP

  • This unique release from the Planet Noise label comes from the production studios on Spazmodic. Based in Norway, Planet Noise is home to Bermuda Triangle amongst others, and this Spaztic Fantastic EP follows similar lines to Bermuda Triangle in that it is quite diverse in its sound. First off on the a-side is Werwer. One of the highlights of the EP, this track uses some nice upbeat drum patterns as well as a fusion of smooth cutting edge effects, all under a quirky set of melodic clicks that make this track what it is. Kajakk follows this and the variety is evident as the tempo slows down completely with this deep and dubby production. Unique vocal snippets combine with solid baselines and crisp bouncy sounds. Firstly on the flip is Funkee Material, and as the name suggest the overall funky tones of this production are the highlights. There are smooth effects that add atmosphere to the production, but the smooth subtle baselines combined with the nice clattering beats make this a short but sweet addition to the EP. Exit Madina concludes the EP in a minimal and quirky fashion. Deep undertones combine with off centre sounds and effects as well as broken beats to create a totally unique concept with this track. And this is the concept I suspect with this release. It is quite off centre which is an attraction to these set of tracks. They are different, they are well produced and as such they are very interesting. I like release like this that try to do something a little different, and succeed in the process.
