Kirkham's "Day After Day," written under his Jon Convex alias, was a banner example of his post-Autonomic style: techno with an electroclash snarl. Matrixxman is all-business on his remix, making "Day After Day" sound like a particularly austere leftover from his Homesick LP. It features playful drum programming and killer pacing—the moment when it boils over into percolating dub-techno chords is one of Matrixxman's 2015 highlights.
Mr. G goes moody for his take on Light Year's Turbo-styled "Inside," weighing it down with a crunchy rhythm and shading it with some jazzy chords. It's less of a revelation than Matrixxman's contribution, but no less slick. Why Kirkham has commissioned a remix EP for an old project when he appears to be moving on is puzzling, but regardless, good techno is good techno.
