LooseWomen - Nobody / Slides

  • The world still isn't short on soulful, early '90s-referencing house releases. On the second record from new British label Grade 10, LooseWomen makes decent use of a done-to-death formula with "Nobody." There's a meaty vocal and a lilting piano line that work in its favour. Nothing about it is novel, but it's nonetheless effective, summery house music with a solid backbone. The rest of the package, however, is a let down to varying degrees. "Slides" is an odd mix of pastoral, Boards Of Canada-style pads, drowsy bongos and a sighing female vocal. It's pleasant, but it's not pretty enough to warrant repeated home listening, and at 105 BPM, unlikely to see any club use. Classic Coke's remix of "Nobody" is simply bewildering. If anyone fancies a 160 BPM, happy hardcore-ish rework of a perfectly serviceable diva-house cut then good news: your ship has come in.
