Sterio & McGrath – Hostile Ground

  • The last release on Source of Gravity by Alexander Church was very impressive, so I went into this release by Sterio & McGrath with pretty high hopes. Hostile Ground followed something pretty good, so it was up to the duo to deliver the goods yet again for this promising label. On the a-side is the Original Mix. Quite a nice feel to this mix from the word go, with some bouncy melodies as well as some vibrant drums. The breakdowns are quite nice indeed, seeing the melodies go solo as well as some nice atmospheric elements joining the party. Once the beats are in motion though, this track is at full pace, and it does quite well with the subtle baseline underneath it all adding strength to an already solid track. First up on the flip is the minimal Perc Mix. The track is quite dark and subdued, but the deep atmosphere works quite nicely with the higher toned sounds in the production. The track though, throughout, is eerily minimal and is quite interesting without ever really impressing too much. The Sterio & McGrath Ambient Mix follows and its quite a nice arrangement of sounds and atmosphere, adding a nice little touch to the end of this release. Not a bad release at all by Source of Gravity, and for me a release that shines on the a-side with the pretty impressive Original mix.
