Renaissance feat. Hernan Cattaneo

  • Now Sounds on Sunday for me on this occasion was all about the form of two men, Hernan Cattaneo and Robbie Lowe. From 4 till 9, the courtyard at Sounds was treated to the highest quality of Music that it has seen in a long time (in my humble opinion). Let me first discuss the local Sydneysider who turned up the heat. Robbie Lowe continued his amazing run of DJ’ing form by playing a blinding set before Hernan. Including tracks such as 16B’s “The Top” and the very very very brilliant “Dangerous” by Zoo Brasil. Smooth all the way, the set had many people well satisfied before Hernan stepped on. By this stage the courtyard was pretty full towards the front half. As the clock hit 6, it was time for the long haired Argentinean (also known as Hernan Cattaneo) to step up and do what he does best. The weather was good, and the crowd was extremely healthy and well up for it so there were no doubts as to the quality of the next 3 hours. And Hernan didn’t disappoint in my opinion. His set was exactly what the doctor ordered. Smooth for the first hour he built the set up with some great house and tech tracks. Tunes such as Luke Fair’s brilliant remix of Agent 001’s “Faakson” as well as cuts from his Renaissance such as the baseline filled “Cultural Assertion” by Randall Jones. In true Hernan style though, the baselines got noticeably thicker and chunkier, and the melodies more rife as the set drew to an end. Cass & Infusion helped issues along with their mix of “Blue Monday” as well as the ever reliable go to man, Luke Chable with “The Sheppard”. Overall the set was pretty solid. Hernan built it up quite nicely and really threw done some low end sounds in that last hour. Those in attendance seemed satisfied with their response and personally, Hernan exceeded my already high expectations. It is clear to see why Hernan’s stature of late has increased to such great heights, as he seems to read a crowd very well, and his taste and build of a set are finely tuned.
