  • Sounds on Sunday is one of the most established events in Sydney pulling a big crowd week after week at the Greenwood in North Sydney. We’d saved ourselves for Sounds enjoying a much quieter weekend than normal in anticipation for a large Sunday and for the lineup which included Craig Obey, Cadell, Matt Roberts, Ben Korbel, Shamus and the headliners – John Course and Tim McGee. I arrived in North Sydney to hear the funky sounds drifting across from the Greenwood and to spend an amusing few minutes finding a parking spot whilst surrounded by less disciplined clubbers searching for that easy parking space and meandering vaguely around the car park happily displaying the results of huge night out. Having had a quiet night we were amped up and ready to party at Sounds, our enthusiasm was slightly dampened at the sight of the massive queues and I was totally under whelmed by the attitude of the bouncers, still at least it was warm, sunny and we had plenty of time to play spot the gurner as we waited in line for 20 mins! Ben Morris was playing a deep house set as we made our way into the already pumping courtyard. It was hard set but one that was well received by the crowd and skillfully put together by Morris with tracks like “ 1-2, 1-2” by miguel miggs & a cute Milkshake accapella. Then Cadell & Langdon Cook took the stage, oh and they took the stage…What a set! I’ve not seen Cadell play before and we were treated to a very deep yet funky house set that was creative and most of all different – It was great to hear and even better to dance too, with track after track impressing and a some beautiful classics like ultimate funk by Bob Sinclair. Skillful, creative, deep, funky and perfect as the sunset over Sydney. Craig Obey V Matt Roberts was next up keeping the tunes deep and playing creative, with stacks of cutting, scratching & looping, when they dropped "new new york" by Nicholas Vallee the crowd loved it! It was impressive show on the decks if a little harsh at times. Keeping the sounds deep but getting a little more vocal were Ben Korbel V Shamus as the night approached John Course V Tim Mcgee rocked the Greenwood at 9.30 with a mashed up, deep vocal set that just quite frankly went off. World-class mixing and creative tune selection alongside their obvious love of playing made for an outstanding set from the Melbourne boy. It didn’t feel like a commercial set yet there were stacks of big songs, but with a different mix or accapella to give the set a real edge. Cadell, Langdon Cook, John Course and Tim Mcgee made for an impressive and refreshing Sounds on Sunday, rocking the greenwood with deep, creative, skillful and funky house music. The next big day is May 16th at Sounds on Sunday with Dave Seaman & Phil K.
