Decka - Isolated

  • Decka debuted on Spe:c with a Bristolian swing in his step and a heavy-duty Berghain session in his heart. Begyndelsen was a sleek trio of utilitarian techno works that for all their merit felt a little one-dimensional. On his follow up for the label, Isolated, Decka repeats that formula with more refined results. "Devour" is a skippy opener that could double as a long-lost Idle Hands track. The isolated claps evoke the idiosyncrasies of Joe, while its dubby headspace and purposeful drive bring to mind Szare. Point being that it's pretty familiar, though a fine effort nevertheless. "Isolated" moves up several gears into a ferocious peak-hour pace. Decka's well-oiled machine falls ever so slightly off its rhythm, a blip in an otherwise pristine piece of techno (perhaps a reminder of the man behind the gears). "003" cools things off to close. It's the slinkiest of the lot, with its overall plushness and gasping vocal stab. Compared to the piston-pumping dash of Begyndelsen's "002," it's a slow percolation from start to finish.
