  • After their groovalicious remix of Mellow & Rivera’s “Rug Cutting”, SuperStyleDeluxe return in 2004 to deliver a new 12’ aim straight for the dancefloor. This time around they’ve teamed up with MC Chickaboo, who is fast becoming a breakbeat favourite and her work has recently been heard on Jean Jacques Smoothie’s latest single, Keep it Movin’. Side A. Dancefloor Superstars. Original Mix The original mix takes on a 2-steppy garage vibe utilising stabby kick drum effects and plenty of syncopated beats giving the beat a real quirky shuffle. In true SSD style, they’ve taken old skool, electro disco synths and incorporated them into the hook. Chickaboo provides her gutsy and deep vocal styles combining MC vocals with singing talent to give one up for the ladies. Not quite what I was expecting but highly original. Side A. Dancefloor Superstars. Capoeria Twins Remix My personal favourite on this 12” comes courtesy of the Capoeria Twins, who have taken the original tune and given it their latin fused breakbeat flavour. The funky breaks are laced with cowbell rhythms and cleverly placed kick drum fills while deep, dubby basslines, disco style guitar hooks and synth stabs fill out the rest of the rhythm section. The Twins then take Chickaboo’s vocals and cut them up for a different effect making them easier to remember. Side B. Bean Feast The flipside is a new tune and will have breakbeat fans reconsidering funky breaks. Bean Feast has the wicked 80’s disco stylings of a SSD tune – funky disco beats and quirky electro synths, only this time they’ve added a filthy, dirty bassline to rumble the speakers – which at one point goes solo during the breakdown. Finally a couple of classic disco samples are thrown in for good measure.
