- Six years in the making, Kasey Taylor and Sean Quinn (Our House) have now released their debut album, 'Our House...Is your House'. Long regarded as the stalwarts of the Australian Progressive scene, our house takes you on a journey of breaks, 4/4, soundscapes and even includes a cover of the Tears for Fears track "Shout".
The album starts with an ambient mix of Solition Wave, which was featured on Dave Seaman's Melbourne Global Underground compilation. This is a great track and really sets the mood for the first half hour. Following on is "Shout" which features vocals from ex - skunkhour singer Aya Larkin. Floating soundscapes and deep grooves lead you into more breaks in "Fire and Ice". This the trademark breaks sound of Our house, a minimal hypnotic melody over twisted breaks, truly awesome stuff. The CD then goes into more of a 4/4 club sound, traversing favourites like the club mix of Solition Wave, Forced and the unforgettable "Clearwater" which featured on Dave Seaman's Awakenings Complition a few years ago. I think that this is the track that captures the sound of Our House, a driving groove, spacey pads, filtered melodies and a real progression to the track (excuse the pun).
All in all a great listen, but it would have been good to hear some more recent tracks from Kasey and Sean, but I guess we would have had to wait another 6 years for that to happen!
