Chris Fortier at Volume, Melbourne

  • This was the shortest time I have ever spent at an event, and honestly truly a memorable night! I’m writing this review while listening to Chris Fortier’s set live from the Palms Hotel from the recent Miami Winter Music Conference. If I was to sum up Chris’s set last night at Volume at Room680, it would be one monster grin from ear to ear, x10 together with a haha. Now to details of the night; approximately 2.30am was entry into Chris Fortier’s playpen and I was paralyzed. Chunky, intense, driving progressive bass lines and melodies, pure melodic mayhem. The last time I had the pleasure of experiencing the mastery of Chris Fortier was at the Tatty Bogle in London in December of last year and I have looked forward to seeing him in Oz ever since Godskitchen. Tonight was met with immense anticipation Mr Fortier could never ever disappoint. To seriously say that I went to an event and stayed for less than 2 hours to see the headliner spin and say best ever is a remarkable achievement, both for my experiences at events and on Fortier’s behalf for sure. HATS OFF!! This man is a true genius, an elite fighter in the world of electronic dance music both as a producer and Dj. Each and every track was fresh, addictive and amazingly brilliant. Smiles all round I was loving it. My mates were on fire and Ellway, in the zone with the digi cam. Fortier played a few familiars; a few notables were a remix of a Madonna track and a track off a recent live Nick Warren set I’ve listened to and who Berko had in his car for the drive back home - perfeeeeeeeeect. It was an average turnout and I have to say was one of the poorest quality crowds I have ever seen. Taking that into account, the night was still spot on. That just reaffirms if the music’s good that’s all that matters and that my friends is what it was. After Chris’ set I had the pleasure of chatting to him. Magic guy, so down to earth and pissed at the same time. I also took a few happy snaps which most certainly put the icing on the cake for the night’s festivities. Following Fortier we hung around for a bit but Mark James was all wrong and we were happy to head off. On an interesting note had the pleasure of running into Sarah a girl whom I met at Fabric seeing Diggas in London in January, spotted her at Digga’s shuffling away with her boyfriend Michael and that only comes from one city, the good old Melbourne, so that definitely was an amazing surprise and really what a small world it is. To conclude, if this was the last event I attend for the rest of the year seriously I am and would be completely and utterly satisfied. Hi 5’z all round. Thanks to Dean and the Private Function crew ohhhhhhh yeah Dean “its so nice to meet you”, and to the Volume crew it was a cracker of a night. Chris Fortier you certainly hit the NOS button……
