- "2.1," a six-minute track on the B-side of Tommy Vicari Jnr's Lositos EP, is on the verge of total disintegration. A shuffling tech house tune with a monster bassline, it's the Sheffield artist at his mind-boggling best, pairing synth squiggles with slapping percussion and a mean atmosphere. It's not a gloomy track, but it's serious—the kind of tune suited to the darkest, sweatiest dance floors. The groove gives way for a few mini-breakdowns, but the tension never abates, only increasing as the hi-hats tick and the snare cracks.
The EP's other three tunes are brighter. "Shtay" recalls early West Coast deep house with its pitched-up vocals and sampled keys, while "Smaller And Bigger"'s pad borders on euphoric, especially once it's paired with a mangled synth. "Lositos" holds the EP's second killer bassline, a three-note wrecking ball that pushes aside bell synths and a tribalist beat. Lositos isn't the knockout many of Vicari Jnr's EPs have been, but "2.1" and the title track make it worthy of your cash.
