Kaybee - Speed Of Sound / That's Why

  • M Theory, run by promising DJ talent Jonathan Lisle, returns to action after the very impressive Jacob Todd release with a taste from Australia producer Kaybee. He delivers two pretty solid productions here that follow from impressive releases from Melbourne based label Zero Tolerance. On the a-side is the driving Speed of Sound. Beginning harmlessly enough, the track builds nicely with some crisp drums and percussive elements alongside some eerie sounds and effects. Shortly though, the deep, dark driving baseline soon enters, taking full control of the production. A very quirky breakdown midway sees sounds and effects take centre stage, as well as Arabian influenced influences. Soon enough though, the beats come back in, and then the low end rumbles which set the mood yet again to its conclusion. On the flip is That’s Why, and it again has a similar dark and driving feel of the Kaybee sound we have come to know. The beats are yet again broken and dark, and the baseline this time not as obvious, but still commanding. The usual atmospheric sounds that Kaybee tends to use are again featured, creating good atmosphere alongside the dark beats. Good melodies come in late into the track, giving it a nice tough towards it s concluding stages. A very solid release here for M Theory, and with a forthcoming release from Ads set to be quite promising, it looks as though there are good times ahead for this promising label.
