Hisham Samawi – Holding On / Spirals

  • Hisham Samawi has been doing the rounds in the production scene under the guise of Dirty Gringos, and his production ‘Cowbell’ especially has seen a positive response by DJ’s and punters alike. Now the New York based producer is putting matters into his own hands by starting his new label, Native Theory, and for the first release, two of his very own productions are featured. They have already seen strong support from the likes of Bill Patrick and James Zabiela, who has included both tracks in his upcoming Alive mix. First up is Holding On, the track which caused quite a stir at the last WMC. Nice crisp beats begin the track as it comes into action very nicely, first with a wobbling baseline and then a quirky male vocal that gives the track a very unique vibe. The drums continue to make this track cutting edge, while the low end sounds give it a fantastic groove. All in all it’s a fantastic production by Hisham, and it’s a track that will definitely imprint itself on your mind. On the flip is Spirals. It is quite different to the a-side, with the noticeably difference being that the beats get broken. A nice smooth acid like baseline gives the track a nice flow, while quirky computer like vocal snippets give it an eerie feel. Smooth throughout, this is again some cutting edge stuff from Hisham. A very positive first release from Hisham Samawi, and exactly was needed to kick start this new imprint.
