  • The Rhythm Masters met around eleven years ago and stem from a hip/hop background. Rob and Steve moved to England where they absorbed the strong house scene and influences of the US garage sounds. All these elements are featured on this album. A mix of house grooves, electro-breakbeat and hip/hop. Rhythm Master's opening track "Underground" starts with deep bass effects entertwined with electronic experimental elements that almost disappear as they change into a funky track full of guitar loops that are headlined with the original elements of the intro. "Ghetto" delivers deep lashings of house and funk. Their sampling of "Let's clean up the ghetto" builds up the energy before Joseph Watson's vocals bring in a depth to this well constructed track. If you are looking for a positive, uplifting track then look no further than "Disco 2000". Careful vocal sampling blends with soft beats and experimental elements. Diane Charlemagne brings her soothing voice to the talents of the Rhythm Masters on "Angels", a house track with ambience. Well produced and a great showcase of Diane's talent. The next three tracks are an exploration of their hip/hop roots to more current house elements. Here they take you on an instrumental journey of their wares. "Speed of light" has an uncanny 80's simplistic sound to the rather basic production values on the backing track and an early New Order sound from Glen Gregory's vocals. This track seems to be the odd one out on the album. "Electronic funk" brings the album back on track with a strong 70's disco sound. A great mix of electronic guitar riffs and deep bass. Chris Otero goes freestyle on the vocals of "Heavy soul" which I would describe as a mix of rock guitar, hip/hop beats and underground rhythmic vocals. This marriage of elements is best described in the title of the re-played sample "Who says a funk band can't play rock". CD two contains remixes of "Heavy soul" and "Underground" from the worldwide heavy weights Todd Terry and Roger Sanchez to name a few. "It's not predictable but invincible, gonna disconnect your head".
