SW / SVN - SUED 19

  • Judging by the sound of SUED's latest split-EP, the jam sessions in SVN's Friedrichshain studio have been particularly lively of late. "Deepmix," the EP's lead track, is the label at its most jacking. It recalls the spacey early techno of acts like B12, where skipping rhythms combined with washes of electroid synths and pads. But, of course, this is SUED we're talking about, so "Deepmix" is no DJ tool. The kick drum drops out often, never fully settling into a steady groove. "Mechine 5," which is closer to deep house than techno, is smoother than its A-side counterpart, floating on a soft bassline and a calming sequence of bleeps. It's 113 BPM and relatively subdued, so DJs will likely play it in a party's opening hours. There are two other great options for those early moments, too. Both artists supply short ambient sketches that are perfect for those tranquil moments before a party's first kick drum, making this EP an essential purchase for DJs who are warming up a dance floor this weekend.
