Talaboman - The Night Land Remixed

  • I never thought we'd see Superpitcher, a king of colourful tech house, release a track on R&S, but here we are. As it turns out, he's actually a good fit. Blending big-room production with the oddball flavour of his best releases, his remix of Talaboman's "Dins El Llit" toes the line between heads-down hypnotism and goofy fun. The beat, which stays locked in for most of the track's 11 minutes, is slick, bubbling with a subtly twanging bassline, shakers and an easy-going chug. The vocals on top, panning from side to side, are classic Superpitcher, as if welcoming you to a days-old afterparty with a grin and wink. Cleverly building in energy, this is shaman house at its classiest. The other remixes are similarly trippy. Samo DJ's remix of "The Ghosts Hood" is the EP's most abstract selection, a shuffling drum track with a snake-charming rhythm and plenty of psychedelic effects. Luke Slater's remix of "Brutal Chugga Chugga" as L.B. Dub Corp is heavy on bass, and wouldn't sound out of place in a Talaboman DJ set on some massive festival stage. Powder's digital-only "Loser's Hymn" is hectic, a whirlpool of synths, claps and pads. If you're only going to buy one remix EP this month, make sure it's this one.
