Alton Miller - A Says Hello

  • Alton Miller has always made great cosmic deep house. As a DJ he came up alongside formative Midwestern scene-builders like Derrick May and Chez Damier, the latter of whom helped him found Detroit's seminal Music Institute nightclub. In the club, Miller and Damier would often rinse vocal-heavy disco records on Saturday nights as the room filled with woozy energy. Over the years, whether releasing on labels like Peacefrog Records or his own Inner Muse imprint, Miller has strayed true to a sound that lifts you up and hits you deep. His latest, A Says Hello on London's Release Sustain, is no different. The title track is an elegant cut filled with twinkling synths, warm chords and dusty drums. "Cool But So..." blends broken beats and inviting chords into another organic deep house tune. That track is remixed by a couple of New Zealanders, Chaos In The CBD, who were likely influenced by Miller's organic and seductive sound. They shine on a delicious version that moves towards a loungier sound. If you're looking for a set of deep house tunes to soundtrack a low-lit, low-key dance floor, this EP by one of the style's best is for you.
