A Dixon favourite finally gets a release.
Marcus Worgull - Love Song
Marcus Worgull's "Love Song" was first identified as an edit of The Cure. It's actually a cover. The six-minute tune is a collaboration with the English singer-songwriter Fink, who sings Robert Smith's original lyrics over a snaking deep house groove with a plucked bassline. It's been a sought-after track for at least a year, with Dixon using it to close sets, and it now gets a release through Innervisions. One of the label's more distinctive recent records, it's a smooth blend of singing, groove and subtle melody.
It's easy to hear why Dixon regularly chose it as his final track. The mood is calm but the energy steadily builds with the arrival of chords and strings, leading into a final breakdown and outro that ensures clubbers get a warm send-off. It's paired with the more energetic "Listen To Charanjit," where drums hit harder and the melody is louder. Save that one for peak-time.
