Melodic techno to win over big rooms.
The "Main Mix" of "Remembrance" and "Hidden Beauties" both share pummelling kicks and uneasy, squelchy bass, but "Remembrance" swaps the momentous vocal sample for spectral synths that will ricochet off warehouse walls. The "Alt Mix" of "Remembrance" adds tickling hi-hats, big acid blobs and a build that, pleasingly, cuts out and avoids the predictable explosive drop. "When I Am Only a Dream" is the EP's best track, laced with a 303, a propulsive drum machine whip and icy arpeggios, recalling the disquieting rhythms of "The Dansant" from Speicher 101. In 2014, ANNA made a track called "Drum Machines Do Have Soul." Now, more than ever, she's making music that proves that point.
