- In the years since Laksa last appeared on Timedance, a string of big releases, including two strong EPs on Ilian Tape, have introduced his music to a wider audience. Emerging as part of a close-knit UK bass scene, Laksa's music now feels at home both in Bristol and Munich, the home of Ilian Tape. On this two-tracker he draws on the ominous sound that's become his trademark, without rehashing old ideas.
Timedance has never shied away from releasing dance floor tunes at unconventionally slow tempos. Rattling at around 100 BPM, The Amala Trick's title track is the latest example. But that's not the only interesting thing about it. Laksa balances its heavy, distorted low-end with soaring, jazzy synths and a laidback break, giving the track a weighty yet surprisingly easy-going feel. You're more likely to hear "In The Middle" at peak-time. With forceful bass, clipped vocals and a halftime feel to the beat, it's exactly the sort of club track that gives Laksa, and Timedance, such a wide appeal.
