- Restrained takes on house and electro.
- In certain circles, Lee Norris is beloved for the wealth of music he's produced. As Metamatics, possibly his best-known alias, Norris has made sophisticated, melodic IDM and electro for over two decades. Frank Rumpelt, AKA Nyquist, has a Discogs page that's also easy to get lost in, with records that stretch back to the late '90s. As you might expect from two veterans, The Far Center is slickly produced, but sometimes overly so. At points, their careful approach borders on timid.
This is especially true of the graceful but meandering "Third Structure," which seems inspired by the polished minimal house of a past era. "Delaypal," a cheerful electro tune, is more energetic and interesting, but the pieces don't click into place until "Far Center." Glitchy, swung percussion and warm, dreamy chords recall Norris's early Metamatics tracks, along with the minimal-inflected early '00s IDM of Jan Jelinek. Edward's remix turns the original into rolling, loopy house. Like the rest of the EP, it's well made but a little too polite.
