  • When it comes to releasing records, the artists involved in Copenhagen's fast techno scene tend to move slowly and carefully. The level of quality control, which extends to the visual and conceptual direction of releases and labels, is high. With Copenhagen techno reaching solid levels of hype recently, this should only be seen as a good thing. It indicates that the artists and labels are designing something that's built to last. Alexander Salomonsen, who releases music as Repro and co-runs the label Euromantic, is a clear example of this. Since it started in 2017, Euromantic, one of the leading Copenhagen techno labels, has released just four records, including Post-Nostalgia. Excluding his work as one half of Funeral Future, Salomonsen himself has been releasing at a rate of one 12-inch per year. Post-Nostalgia continues to develop the tough, synth-powered Repro sound. Like so much of the stuff coming out of Copenhagen, these are techno tracks that are willing to go further, to take more risks. The influence of trance has been the most obvious example of this, and although the genre stalks this EP, Salomonsen could equally be drawing from minimal wave or EBM. In pursuing moods and moments that are best summarised by the word "massive," Salomonsen does fly too close to the sun at times. "Final Skincall" throws a little too much in the mix and winds up feeling blunt next to the sharpness and power of "Stamina/Limitless" and "Backscatter." The lovely and slightly unstable ambient "Der Går Bedre" points to other possible applications of Salomonsen's melodic savvy, although that's really just a passing thought—big is generally best in Copenhagen techno.
