- Touching synth experiments.
- Like the dramatic synth experiments of Ellen Arkbro, Xenia Xamanek and Caterina Barbieri, Copenhagen's Astrid Sonne weaves warmth into static soundscapes. "One Inch Shrugs The Other Shoulder," from her latest record, is an explicit manifestation of human vs. machine. Based on a computer reacting to a soft viola, it sounds like an intimate dialogue between the two parties. The sharp reverberations of "Air Is Unfit" contrast with the introverted mood of that opening track, bursting with a joyful intensity that illustrates the release's diversity. The minimalist "Strong, Calm, Slow" closes the mini-LP with graceful chanting. Human voices take over, highlighting the record's emotional depth. While Cliodynamics isn't particularly coherent, it's touching and playful, hinting at the vast potential of this young artist.
