- Foggy ambient recorded from an unlikely source—motorcycle engines.
- J Colleran has an unlikely foundation for the gleaming ambient music on EP01—motorcycle engines. The Irish producer says he ripped recordings of engines from YouTube and then fed them into a granular synthesizer. The result is a bright texture that Colleran groups into chord-like clusters.
"Arena (crush44 edit)" sounds like a lullaby arranged by AI, while the saccharine tones of "S-Flood" is like PC Music at a spa. The EP's odd flow is disorienting but comfortably numb. It has one incredible standout in "Bene," which melts into a gorgeous, trance-textured reverie somewhere between Lorenzo Senni and a '90s Japanese role-playing game. This is the moment of clarity on a pleasantly foggy EP, where Colleran shows he can create gorgeous sounds with unusual methods.
