Hexadecimal - Cold Rock/Funky See, Funky Do

  • Somewhat up'n'coming producers to the breakbeat scene, Hexadecimal have, in the short stint of releases and remixes they have done so far, won they're way into the record boxes of the scene's biggest names. Their first remix appeared in James Zabiela's mix album and their second made it onto the Plump DJ's FabricLIVE CD. To top that off, their first original tune debuted on the DJ Magazine Beats and Breaks Chart at No.1. Now for Vinyl Addiction, the duo have put together their first release for the label in the form of Cold Rock/Funky See, Funky Do. Side A. Cold Rock On a crowd rocking party tip, Cold Rock begins with a b-boy style break loaded with stabs and percussive elements throughout. It then quickly leads into a dirty bassline groove accompanied by buzzy synth stabs and a "cold rock" shouting vocal sample... and that's just the intro! During the first buildup they introduce a quirky hook before charging right into a massive groove which ties together all of the elements from the intro with even more bass. Side B. Funky See Funky Do A cheekily titled number yet one for the "funky" in all of us - ooh ooh ooh! On a similar tip to Cold Rock, Funky See features another dirty growling bassline featuring lots of twists, sleazy vocal stabs and funky guitar licks sitting nicely on a big rocking break. After the intro the tune flows straight into a massive electro synth workout. It's a good release and one that should be getting its fair share of plays in the club. I just can't help but feel that it has been done before and is quite noticable in Cold Rock.
