  • Situated in the nicer part of Kings Cross - Potts Point to be more exact, Yu is one of those places where you can sit back and relax to some groovy house tunes blasting from the sound system every weekend, or you can go nuts and shake your ass like you''ve never shaken it before. Ear Candy is the weekly friday night party and resident DJ''s Shamus, Tim McGee, Johnathan Wall and crew are well prepared to get the party happening. After taking over part of the classy Soho club, which was apparently strict on dress code, Yu has been modelled into a very stylish establishment and there is no dress code - people are there to dance and not to pose. Upon walking inside, comfortable chairs and a good seating arrangement are a welcome sight - not everyone is able to dance all night, however Johnathan Wall was on the decks making sure that most of the seats would be left free. House, which is basically the clubs choice of music every night with the exception of special events, was being played in all it''s forms and John Wall is a great DJ to get things going. Basically playing the funky stuff all the way through, yet current enough to leave the platforms and frilly shirts at home. Any big fans of Ministry Of Sound out there will be well suited to this place. At the end of his set, he once again played Basement Jaxx''s Fly Life - a real party starter! The end of the week could not get any better. Andrew James was up next. Having never heard this guy DJ before, it was interesting to see where he''d take the crowd especially after Wall almost exhausting a lot of funky house anthems and classics. It was a little disappointing hearing pauses between the tracks as he missed a beat here and there, thing is though, the crowd really didn''t suspect a thing as the dancefloor had an ample number of people. After playing the funky house, he moved onto a more progressive set. Shamus was next up on the decks and he never fails to please the crowd. Always funky and uplifting, he is the DJ to finish the night and leave everyone either smiling or tired from dancing too much. However no amount of funkiness could keep this reviewer from staying, work on Saturdays made sure I left early. Oh well. For a modest entry fee of $15 or $10 for members, Yu is definitely a classy way to end the week. Thing is you''ll need more than that to have a great night, as the drinks can get a little pricey.
