  • Venue: Cube 326, Tokyo Japan. Event Date: Friday 26 April 2002. DJs: Bumbling Loons - LIVE (Flying Rhino Records) James Monro (Flying Rhino Records) Dick Trevor (Green Nuns of the Revolution/Flying Rhino Records) Mitsumoto (Sinister Assosication) Ryo (Solstice Music) JIN (Trance Cafe) The internationally acclaimed label, Flying Rhino Records, was to hold its label event in Cube 326 - a renowned venue for trance events in Tokyo. Headlining the event was Flying Rhino's co-boss James Munro and alongside him Dick Trevor whom many know and love from Green Nuns of the Revolution. Upon entering the Cube 326, the crowd was warming up to what they anticipated would be coming. So a relaxed atmosphere on the dancefloor was appreciated by many. James Munro was spinning at the time, the crowd building and shuffling their way to the dancefloor. Upstairs the local DJ's made their presence known - Mitsumoto, Ryo and JIN all creating a circus like feeling - party goers playing volleyball with glow-in-the-dark beach balls and twirling glow streamers and sporting psychadellic clothing.. They loved it. In particular I was impressed with Mitsumoto. His set was thumping and set the tempo to "boil" for the main DJ's downstairs. As I ventured downstairs once more, James Monro's marathon set was developing into a sexier psychadellic sound.... something which makes you give a wicked michievous grin to yourself as your body moves to the artful tunes. However, after loud applause to the Co-founder of Flying Rhino for his efforts behind the decks, James Monro moved in beside Dick Trevor to form Bumbling Loons and then things really started to blast off! Bumbling Loons performance was something you could all but release all inhibitions to with deep and colourful grooves making powerful dancing necessary. It was like you would want to cut a piece out of time and keep it forever. Needless to say the crowd followed with their feet stamping and chants of "Saiko!" (meaning something like "This is the peak" or "This is f*cking brilliant" in Japanese). James Monro took a well earned rest and it was Dick Trevor's turn to spin. Dick Trevor played some absolute crowd favourites, producing that hypnotic feeling where you just don't know what hit you until you eventually snap out of the trance and beg for more once again.... which is exactly what happened with a couple of encores! Australia - be on the look out for James Monro at the Outback Eclipse Festival at the end of the year!!!!
