Luis Malon - Durango

  • The sort of monster you could imagine Binh unleashing at a Livity Sound showcase.

  • Don't let his Slow Life releases fool you. Luis Malon, the rising Barcelona-via-Montevideo producer, makes tracks as big and brash as they come (the rhythm section on this favorite, for example, features EBM-style kicks and a screeching vocal sample). Still, you better hold onto your hat for his latest soundsystem monster, "Durango." The song centers on a ferociously compressed bass that tears through the track like a wolf shaking its prey, splattering the snow with the occasional rave stab. While that may sound melodramatic, Malon pulls off this colossal track with style, fusing the sub weight of Bristol bass with the claustrophobic unease of the best Uruguayan techno.
