- Chicago jazz veteran Kahil El'Zabar understands that people in suffering don't always need answers. Sometimes, assurance is enough. Over 13 minutes, the multi-instrumentalist, saxophonist Isaiah Collier (whose band The Chosen Few warrants its own review), keyboardist Justin Dillard and trumpeter Corey Wilkes channel the intimacy of a best friend's hug through gentle crooning and warm, sauntering notes. Their melody–sparse yet regal–is heavy with gospel's spirit of acceptance and hope but the chords somehow feel light amid the track's emotions, lingering unassumingly long after the record ends.
