Tirzah - Ribs

  • A disarmingly direct love song like only Tirzah can do.

  • "Ribs" takes a little longer to unfurl than most Tirzah tracks, but once the lopsided groove settles in—a disorienting kick-hat pattern—underneath here wordless, wobbling coos, it feels like home. Released after last year's stunning Colourgrade and ahead of the UK artist's upcoming tour, "Ribs" feels like a leap forward from what was already lofty ground. The song barely holds together, but where every new syllable Tirzah utters keeps you hanging on, even when they start to slur together. "In every way way I'm watching over you / And see you rise up to flying high, baby," she sings, a hymn to devotion like so much of her work. Even "You're everything to me," one of the most clichéd phrases in the love song lexicon, drips with pathos, as the instrumentation sputters around her—ramshackle, honest, pure.
