  • At least for electronic music people, it's hardly ever been a better time to be a pop fan. As more underground artists penetrate the commercial music realm, standards are being raised and listeners on both sides of the spectrum stand to benefit. Recent months have seen the likes of Harry Styles draw inspiration from Haruomi Hosono, Kelman Duran and Honey Dijon produce for Beyoncé and Nick León for Rosalía. The latest collision of musical worlds comes in the form of Isabella Lovestory's link-up with Miami stalwart León and Bala Club affiliate Kamixlo. Pushing the limits of reggaeton pop to darker and apocalyptic places, León and Kamixlo concoct a patchwork of sinister synths and bursts of thudding drums in a reflection of their love for aggressive and industrial-tinged dembow. It's too far-fetched to call the record experimental, since their production follows a linear path, but each deadly shrill contributes to a brooding disposition, casting a horrorcore glaze over reggaeton's ebullient nature. Punchy, dangerous and, most importantly, fun, the duo add immense depth to Isabella Lovestory's sexy lyrics.
