Lee Burridge & Omid16b - Musica Summer Series

  • On paper, the Musica crew it would appear have a winning idea with the Boat party and Sydney summer meeting to create the Musica Summer Series. With that in mind the prospect of 8 hours under some superb weather and under the control of some superb DJ’s was always a mouth watering prospect, and as the day unfolded, all my expectations of one of the best parties this summer came to life. The day started out quite nicely with some smooth house on the upstairs deck, the place to be early on with the sun shining down. It was a nice enough start to the cruise with the more recognisable house tunes easing people into the day. On the middle level Simon Caldwell was in his usual good form, playing some really solid tech house, and also giving us an early highlight with Carl Craig’s intense remix of ‘Falling Up’. The clock hit 4 and I was very keen to check out Omid16B’s set on the bottom level. Being very familiar with his endless list of top draw productions, I was quite keen to see how good Omid was as a DJ, and to be honest, he exceeded my expectations. Omid’s a very close friend of Desyn Masiello’s, and as such it was quite easy to see some similarities they had as DJ’s. He laid down some of the chunkiest house music one could ask for, including his superb remix of Agent001’s ‘Bubblebath’ that went down a treat late on. He ended his set with Prince, and it was the end to one of the finest set’s I have heard this year. It’s just a shame that it was his only appearance in Sydney as this guy really deserves to be seen by many more people! Lee Burridge came on at 7pm and although I have seen him 2 times already on this tour, it is quite amazing that yet again he was quite simply brilliant. For me Lee is definitely one of the better DJ’s going around, and his 3 hours of twisted tech madness was ridiculously good. He played a few tracks from his Sounds live performance that were so good, I wish I could hear them another 20 times, and yet again his flow, much like it was at Sounds, was flawless. The organisation of the party from Musica was top class. The boat itself was top draw and as such the mood by everyone on the boat was very upbeat. It was the first installment of the Summer Series by Musica and after the success of the day, it definitely won’t be the last boat party by Musica that will set the standard of not only off land parties, but parties generally in Sydney.
