  • Irish producer Kerrie is a great match for Blueprint—both are reliable sources of bona fide, no-bullshit techno. They also have a tendency for tracks that have a certain kind of flair without interrupting the groove, like the opening cut and title track of Transient Belief, with its wacky, twisted hi-hat work—almost as if the hats are melting at the end of each bar. Or the ravey chord progression on "Nightwalker," which adds some colour to its grotty, pseudo-EBM rhythm section. (The mixdown is great too—that rave riff never quite outshines the rst of the track, instead adding some shading.) Not that you need a gimmick. "Theta State" is just great, straight-up techno with an acerbic riff that adds a slight trance flavour on a label where that would normally come off as a dirty word. But like the best of the genre, it's all about modulation, the way the frequencies shift and morph as the track tunnels through its six-minute runtime. That leaves the intriguingly-titled "Find Your Tribe," which pivots around a midrange bass wobble that sounds like an engine won't start. Full of neat textures and sounds, Transient Belief is a great way to inject some off-kilter sounds into a techno set without losing the crowd.
