Angel Farringdon - Wired/Critical

  • Angel Farringdon is the brainchild of Helen T who is one half of Paradox 3000 with JDS' Darren Pearce and is also a legendary figure in the UK hardcore scene. With releases on Punk Funk, she's definitely carved a niche for herself with a fine selection of original tunes and of course bootleg mixes on the Show label. Now she makes her Wireframe records debut with a couple of heavyweight breakers in the form of Wired and Critical. Side A. Wired Wired starts off with a percussive breakbeat and it's easy to see that it's focus is aimed squarely at the dancefloor as it's highly infectious and should incite people on the floor to dance. A house/rave influenced bassline builds up in the back and once the drop comes in, Angel drops a massive old skool influenced female vocal. In the background an electro influence can be heard and to top it all off, she drops a crunk style synth line in the middle breakdown. Quality stuff and one of Wireframe's best releases. Side AA. Critical Critical mashes together influences of dub and electro as it starts off with a massive electro fused breakbeat with a dub influenced keyboard hook that kicks in during every offbeat in typical reggae fashion. During the first breakdown, Angel introduces the vocals which are accompanied by a haunting synth line. Once the tune gets busy, various vocal samples, ragga drum fills, and electro bleeps, buzzes and stabs get cut into the tune making it quite a busy tune indeed (so much so that they sound very familiar as if they've been ripped off Prodigy's Out Of Space!) I'm really into this release and it has worked wonders on the dancefloor.
