Alinka - Day Dreamer

  • A transatlantic itinerary of swung house music.

  • Alinka has operated in a unique corner of house music for the past decade. After honing her skills as a smartbar resident, she first made a mark as a producer in the early '00s through collaborations with former Hercules & Love Affair singer Shaun J. Wright and their Twirl imprint. Those releases were sultry and lean, with just the right amount of sleaze (wait for the bleeping synth to cut across the velvet pads on this one, for example)—throwbacks to fellow Chicago natives like Cajmere. Since then, she's shifted to a more contemporary European flavor of house with releases on juggernauts like Rekids and Crosstown Rebels. Her latest release, Day Dreamer, reboots her Twirl imprint and tries yet another new sound on. The title track is like a miniature encapsulation of her transatlantic love of house. The bassline is warm and wiggly, as classic deep house as they come, but the swung hand drums are bespoke for beach sunsets. Throw in the dubby, menacing chords and you've got a bona fide ode to house that'll sound as good in Chicago as Ibiza.
