  • EVM128's "Gamma Riddim" has become a contemporary classic in the second generation of the broken beat scene. It's got everything that makes bruk tick: loose, live hand drums, a cheekily compressed bassline and chopped vocals that'll keep you 2-stepping until the wee hours. Originally released in 2018 as part of the first batch of tunes from Alex Phountzi & IG Culture's CoOp Presents, the label now celebrates five years in business with a remix pack. The biggest surprise here comes from insurgent UK garage producer Bakey. He keeps the vocal, but that's about it, reworking "Gamma Riddim" into a peak time piece of NUKG, complete with not one but two rewind-worthy breakdowns. Even though it isn't likely that a track like this tough be rinsed at a CoOp night, it still captures the original playfulness as the vocals bounce like basketballs across the ten-tonne bassline.
