- LUXE and Angel D'Lite prove their partnership is only stronger because of their friendship. In their new joint Enchanted EP, each producer delivers an original track and reciprocal remixes, bolstered by a handful of further remixes from some other friends. With eight cuts of UK-influenced heat, Enchanted shows how much ground you can explore with minimal source material. It skips across the dance music spectrum, landing on breaks, jungle, garage and UK funky, to name a few genres.
LUXE and Angel D'Lite complement each other well, and the songs are aptly titled, underlining the juxtaposition between the artists. On LUXE's "Dance Enchantress," you'll find deep warbles and speedy, thudding drums that define her generally hypnotic sound. "Cloud 69," from Angel D'Lite, has breathy vocal samples and video game synths that lend it a more whimsical air. LUXE bounces from bassline to techno, then sprinkles in a trance interlude, a particularly fun and unexpected touch. The duo reveal how much they really understand each other on the remixes. Angel D'Lite expands on "Dance Enchantress"'s softer moments, turning those entrancing loops into a dynamic deep house tune. LUXE also pays homage in her rendition of "Cloud 69," maintaining stability while sharpening the low-end with a distinct edge.
Baraka and FAFF's seductive energy breaks up the EP nicely. Baraka's version of "Cloud 69" sticks out the most tempo-wise, reaching upwards of 160 BPM with its junglist rhythms. FAFF's brings sexy, booty-shaking bass into the mix. But for a project made to play on the dance floor, Local Group's driving, UK garage-influenced rework of "Cloud 69" is the one that truly hits the spot, each kick drum and vocal chop hitting at the just right time over a ripping, Overmono-style bassline.
Enchanted is what happens when you put together six artists who really get one another, and you give them the sole mission to get the room bumping. With eight tracks that touch on so much of the dance music spectrum, there's bound to be something to add to everyone's party playlist.
