Sasha Pervukhin - I CALL YOU

  • Ominous techno with plenty of groove from a new Carpet & Snares sub-label.

  • Lisbon's Carpets & Snares is like the Portuguese equivalent of Berlin's KMA60 or London's Phonica. Morphing from humble shop into a series of labels, the outfit has become synonymous with functional and tasteful house and techno—from peak time tech house on the flagship to the atmospheric musings on Dream Tickets to the Joe Delon-curated Welt Discos. The conglomerate now welcomes Sasha Pervukhin into the fold for a new imprint focused on Ukrainian producers. The standout track from Pervukhin's inaugural EP For Mariya, "I CALL YOU" pairs a down-to-business bassline and swung drums with a motif that sounds like it's strung togethe from samples of poking holes in balloon animals. As the track progresses, Pervukhin leans into the haunted circus vibes by throwing in some minor key melodies. This one's a bit more techno than you usually get from Carpet & Snares, but it's the sort of techno you'd hear at Closer from residents like Noizar or Shakolin in the lost hours of a Sunday morning.
