If you’ve heard this Tech-House monster, you must’ve been wondering “what on earth were they thinking” and you won’t be alone. Something completely leftfield from a history of epic basslines and hard-noise percussions, even James Zabiela was afraid to play this at first. May need a bit warming up as there’s no beautiful melodies or slick breakbeats, but that’s the beauty in it – Lostep and even to an extent, Global Underground, are expanding themselves because they’ve earned that right to explore sounds that they usually don’t create, and they will have a fan base that will give them a chance where others would fail. Because We Can is that 4-ton Ape that's crushing everything and the dino in sight, but still has a soft (well…hard actually) spot in your heart if you give it a chance.
Flip sees the pair go about a “Hybrid-like” title with the help of Habersham in their not-so-B-side Theme From a Fairytale. Kinda Ambient, kinda lo-fi Dub with a dreamy loop as the backdrop. If the B-side is any indication of the continue journey the two have in creating music, I certainly want to be the first in line to follow where they’re going. “Theme” reminds me of Boards of Canada without the headtrips, and that’s a good thing.
Two polar opposites that may not attract the usual fan, but those who gives it a bit of time will find that Lostep is still pushing out top-notch tracks.
