Capoeira Twins - Whistle Blower/To The Dawn Of The Day

  • The latest act to sign to SuperStyleDeluxe's Payback Project label are one of Wolverhampton's best known breaks acts, The Capoeira Twins. The Twins have been somewhat quiet lately however since the release of their full length LP, Reansville Heights (which featured the classic '4x3'), they've managed to produce a couple of releases for Hope Recordings as well as a remix for Swedish breaks label Sound Of Habib. Known for their dancefloor friendly funkiness, the Capoeira Twins churn out one bass heavy funker with Slyde dropping a remix on the flip. 'Whistle Blower' starts off with a percussive breakbeat with a brooding bassline for the intro and loaded with bleepy stabs. The tune itself gets its name from the loud whistles and the old funk vocal which tell the listener to "suck a whistle and blow". After the intro, a rumbling monotonic bassline kicks in really giving the bottom end the energy levels it needs. But what is really cool about the tune is during the bridge, the Twins use the chorus line from the same vocal sample giving the whole track a nice song structure. Known for their house meets breaks crossover sound, Fingerlicker's Slyde tackle 'To The Dawn Of The Day' and drop a remix loaded with all their traits. Much like Whistle Blower, the tune also kicks off with a percussive breakbeat, this one sounding a lot deeper and hollow. Slyde then drop a trademark bassline and fill the top end with housey electro synths, a female vocal and a discofied horn riff. It's certainly a bit deeper and darker from the Slyde we're used to, but it doesn't continue through the whole tune as they reach a really busy and noisy climax towards the end.
