For Leena's first release they've drafted in Holger Zilske of Smash TV, who will also be known to some from his 12” with Dave DK on Playhouse late last year. Zilske comes with a two track EP, which starts off with ‘Aura’, an abrasive house track that sounds a little like "Erotic Discourse" being dragged through the k-hole. ‘Enduro Disko’ meanwhile is a little more sinister and slow burning. But in truth both tracks sound far too close to ‘electrohouse’ for 2007, and are unlikely to please most Mobilee fans.
It might not be too cynical to suggest that the point of some of these sub-labels seems to be to release music by friends of the label that won't cut the mustard at the parent company. In this regard, Kompakt's K2 stands out as an exception: a sub-label which has actually brought us music by new and interesting artists, and not served simply as an open pasture for pals.
Most people will have been excited to hear of Leena, but as a first release this serves to deflate the balloon considerably. The next Leena will be by Vincenzo and Joel Mull. I guess few families own two BMWs.
