Ghost - It's All Love / Ying Yang

  • Ghost has always exhibited an appetite for doing hip hop his own way with his own sound, but 'It's All Love' is a departure from what anybody would have expected. Gone is the moody, sullen feel of his debut album Seldom Seen Often Heard, and in its place is…er…Northern Soul and knockabout rock and roll. 'Its All Love' is an unashamedly silly party song with a pitched up vocal that sounds like The Chipmunks wailing about something or other to do with love, although you'll be too busy with the infectious beat, neat filtering and organ flourishes to care. If you can leave your cool at the door this will put a smile on your face. In terms of mood, 'Ying Yang' will be steadier ground to Ghost fans, but it’s still rather unfamiliar. The track starts off sounding like 80s electro and off-key acid house, throws in a slowed down hip house beat before delicious long notes morph it into one of those graceful and introspective cuts that Subway does so well. It's always a pleasure to see a label that's known for one style of music (top notch funk in this case) branching out. This 7-inch vinyl is a deserving addition to the Breakin' Bread canon.
