Steve Lawler - Dark Drums 2

  • When it comes to dark tribal house, Steve Lawler is quite simply in a class of his own. His recent set in Sydney was testament to this as he delivered percussion paradise throughout his 3-hour journey. Dark Drums 2 is a collection of his current sound, from dark pounding drums to deep vocal house; it’s a heart pounding mix from Steve ‘Dark Drums’ Lawler. Manero’s White Lady mix of “The Darwin’s Theory” by Bongo Manero is a fine example of the trademark sound that Lawler has developed over the last few years, dark and pounding, yet terribly addictive. Sharam J & Nick K’s “Shaka” has an irresistible baseline while “The Sound Of The Floor” by Menace is without a doubt a highlight of the mix, it’s echoing vocals should be enough to get you on your feet. Peter Bailey’s “U Need It” also deserves special mention. Dark Drums 2 comes very highly recommended, especially for those who appreciate Lawler’s sound. Lawler mixes the darker and tribal records brilliantly with the funkier vocal tracks, and never lets the mix get monotonous. If you liked his Nubreed effort, than Dark Drums 2 will definitely hit the spot as well.
