Andy Hunter - Exodus

  • To say that Andy Hunter is an ordinary DJ and Producer would be a lie. Andy Hunter, some would say, is targeting 2 markets with his music. Firstly the club scene, and secondly, the Christian music scene in which he feels so passionately about. Hunter continues to work at the HGM (New Generation Music and Mission), a community that was looking for new breed of missionaries helping people find their faith in a non-stereotypical, preach-free way, and found their perfect man in 1992 with Andy. Hunter began work on this album in 2000 at his studio in Swansea. The result is ‘Exodus’, and 10 tracks ranging from downtempo, breakbeat and full out club cuts. Highlights of the album are firstly “The Wonders of You”, an upbeat breakbeat record with Hunter personally on vocals. Christine Bird lends her vocals to the trancey “Amazing”. “Show” is one of the downbeat highlights of the album, with swishing and swirling effects combined with subtle vocals and a slow beat. Cathy Burton is on vocals in yet another lush chilled production by the name of “Translucent”. The subtle piano lines and uplifting mood of “Angelic” will please many. The full blooded “Intercessional” concludes the album in a fast and furious manner, while maintaining a melodic aspect. It’s an interesting album to say the least. It’s varied throughout, from slow morning after moments to 4/4 dance floor trance records. The faith of Andy Hunter delivered in this album will definitely appeal to some, and may fall short for others. Worth a look.
