His newest for Versatile proves the point ably, collecting a trio of tracks that sound nothing alike. "Falling" is slow and low piano-led disco that would likely find a nice home in a Mark E set, while "Operation Hypnosis" sounds like a lite-brite version of Belgian acid techno. And, as if that wasn't enough, "Un Dimanche Sans Fin" is sublime dub-wise techno. You know, just to rub it in.
Chaix has been doing this stuff for almost 15 years on Versatile. And it stands to reason that he could do it 15 more. What makes Falling so special, though, is that each of these genre workouts are more than mere mimicry. It may be hard to hear—there are no sonic signatures like DJ Koze or Pépé Bradock—but that's because simple quality craftsmanship rarely leaves a trace.
