Aspic / Nerve Salad is exactly as Jas Shaw describes the label: "disgusting things that are enjoyed by a small group of people." Both tracks are filthy techno that seemingly have little to do with their recent output. In a different world, "Nerve Salad" could pass for a SCI+TEC track. It's dank atmosphere is leavened by SMD's preternatural instinct to allow some melody into the mix, but it's detuned and uncomfortable. Wonky, in other words. A-side "Aspic" is straighter, working its tinny riff into your brain via the fact that they let the thing run for what seems like eight straight minutes. It'd be annoying if they didn't put a massive amount of effects on the thing throughout, giving you a reason to follow its many permutations as though it were a pair of socks in the washing machine.
