Creamfields Brazil

  • It's not uncommon that major global brands have problems when they venture into the Brazilian market. Electronic music is no different, as for a long time Creamfields has attempted to stage major events in the country. After six years of frustration and different cities, it seems that the clubbing behemoth has finally found the proper formula—and place—for its Brazilian edition. The 2011 event was scheduled for January 22, the middle of the country's summer season. The city chosen was one of the major tourist centers of the Brazilian coast: Florianopolis, the capital of Santa Catarina, a place in southern Brazil that has a strong electronic music scene. (It's the home to clubs like Warung and Green Valley.) The caution with which the event was taking place was evident in the size of its line-up. Names like Erick Morillo, Above & Beyond, Brazilian duo Felguk and Argentine Hernan Cattaneo were the highlights of the main stage, while Soundexile, Raresh, Guy Gerber, Loco Dice and Gui Boratto presented themselves in the Cream Arena. Ten thousand people attended, with most of them crowding around the main stage. This meant there was ideal space for dancing in the Cream tent where Raresh was the biggest surprise. He was among the least known to the Brazilian public, but the Romanian charmed everyone with some deeper house sounds. Guy Gerber and Loco Dice also performed well, setting up the tent for the climactic set from Gui Boratto, a local hero. He finished up at around 8 AM, capping off a satisfying Creamfields Brazil. Now that they have the right location, expect that success to continue into 2012 as it consolidates as a major national event.
