Manuel Tur feat. Holly Backler - Most of This Moment Remixes

  • I admit: I was a bit disappointed to learn that the fabulous Isolée remixes found here, originally issued on a white label last November, were to have a digital incarnation. Naïve, treasure-digging, egotistical me. When, after all, it's a service to trackspinning mankind to make these tracks prominently available. I only wonder why the white labels out there are still going for the original market prices. The Isolée mixes are of a luminous kind, in particular the vocal version. Half lullaby, half stomper, it's the best thing Isolée has done in the deep house spectrum since his iconic "Cardiology" remix for Recloose. Here, he handles the sensuous yearning of Holly Backler's voice delicately and infuses the track with a warm bass-breath of fluffy funk and shimmering synth. Informed by sonic shrapnel, drony guitar riffs and the interplay of kick and snare, the tracks scurry along, by and by riding into full-blown dance floor form. Add two Chicago-styled renderings to this, and you'll get a fine package of re-interpretations. The Tuff City Kids remix, courtesy of Philip Lauer and Gerd Janson, churns and chugs along an infectious acid line, and goes all whistles, cowbells and glittery piano. The Blakkat re-interpretation equally employs a 303 theme, but treads a slightly riskier path by exchanging Holly Backler's voice with a Germanic-accented male version.
