Carter Brothers - Full Disco Jacket

  • As soon as one reads the word "disco," it's pretty much a foregone conclusion what the music is going to entail. From two Australian brothers based in Adelaide, Full Disco Jacket isn't quite what you'd expect, though. Shrugging off the lavish brassery of old-school disco, the record instead opts for an approach that's more reminiscent of filter house. The main mix is pulled along by a two part bass patch, with a twanging guitar straddling something funkier. A repetitive sequence of descending horn notes takes care of the highs. The dub mix is similar. The power of the sub-bass seems to have been upped a little and a touch more shaker added. It's deeper, but not by much. Like its sibling track, it's entirely loopy, eschewing traditional song structure for something more circular. British producer Nebraska adds a touch of London to his remix, with a grainy, tape hiss intro. Hand drums and tough claps form bridges between jarring stabs of horn. It's somewhat of a jumpy counterpoint to the single-mindedness of the other two, but it's a contrast some will appreciate.
